Welcome! I am an Assistant Professor of Applied Economics and the Mitsubishi Career Development Assistant Professor in International Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management. I am also a Research Fellow at CEPR Political Economy and a member of CEPR Research and Policy Network on Geoeconomics.

During the 2025–26 academic year, I was on sabbatical at the Department of Economics at Harvard University. From 2019 to 2022, I was an Assistant Professor at the Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance (EIEF).

My research focuses on political economy, with an emphasis on the economics of digitization and international trade. My work has been published in the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, the Economic Journal, the Journal of Development Economics, and the Journal of Public Economics. Beyond academia, my research has received attention from media outlets such as the New York Times, Financial Times, The Guardian, NPR, Scientific American, The Atlantic, and Freakonomics, among others. It has also been cited in the U.S. Surgeon General’s Advisory on Social Media and Youth Mental Health and the Economic Report of the President (2024, 2025).

I earned my Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University in June 2019. Prior to my doctoral studies, I completed my B.A. in Economics at the Higher School of Economics. I hold Moldovan and Russian citizenship.
